Yamaka China - Viscount 2222 Japan?!?!?

Question: last summer, I happend to find a yard sale that was selling a very nice set of plates, bowls and tea cups. Since I always wanted a set like that, I bought it. Now, the question is, the set that I got is rather old, from what I can see and I was wondering if it was worth anything. On the back of them, there's a label and it's also written VISCOUNT 2222 Japan I'm pretty sure that they're old and rather valuable, I would just like to know how old and how much are they.

Answer: When your evaluating things like this from Japan, lots of stuff comes into play. First thing, is it a complete set? Is there a matching number of dishes and cups? Was there a box? I have heard of Yamaka, but I dont know if they are in business anymore. Viscount is probably the style and the 2222 is maybe the dye lot number. Just from my experience (I live in Japan and I collect antiques), I think they might have been made after WWII which, sadly, doesnt make them worth that much. You would have to do research to find out if Yamaka is still in business. If they were pre-WWII, they might be worth something.....but only to someone who really is into that kind of stuff. If it were made post WWII, it was unstained, unchipped and you had a complete set...probably I wouldn't pay more than $50. Sorry. Lots of that stuff was mass produced. Still, its worth a look.
